June 12 and June 19, 2009

Thanks to everyone for staying in touch with us. I have the past two knitting groups together and want to get these posted before I get another week behind. I have photos of our volunteers who come each week to work with our clients and inspire our clients with their latest projects. Our volunteers say that our ladies inspire them as well. Our volunteer Allison has started a triangular shawl fad! We always have blankets and handbags going. Felting is always so rewarding for our newest knitters. Dropped stitches disappear. And we also have our service project going with our ladies making blankets for the SPCA animals.

Lynne, who works here, joins us whenever she can.

Stephanie, showing us her latest project. It is beautiful!

Allison, our volunteer who started the shawl projects. Thanks Allison.

Here is Heather, our intern.

Here is Kristen from Pals for Life, our pet therapy organization. We had a pile of blankets for her today. She told us the kittens are doing well! She came with four kittens and a rabbit this week. The kittens were motherless for various reasons but Kristen is feeding them and they are doing great 9 (especially with the help of our knitters).

Here are photos from this week's knitting group. We have many new knitters who learn so quickly! Way way back when knitting first started here at IH, I was the one teaching the group, NOW our ladies are ALL knitting and when the new admissions come in, the clients who have already learned teach the new admissions how to knit! And I am always thankful for our volunteers who come in each week with enthusiasm and ideas and they are always helping out the newest knitters.Above: a blanket turned into a poncho! Below, this lady has only been here two weeks.

Above: the crocheted blanket is almost done. Zelphia, our volunteer, is making a shrug. Her shrugs have inspired many of our knitters.

Here are three more blankets.

This is a first project. She was worried it wasn't "good enough" for the blog but we all think first projects are perfect just the way they are.

Above: a shawl, and below, fancy flip flops she adorned with fun fur.

Above a blanket and below a shawl.

This is a scarf and hat by one of our newest knitters.

This blanket is more than halfway done.

before felting........two handbags.
