The handbag is felted. Our client is now working on the i cord. This was made with tapestry yarn pieced together.
One of our clients has become the expert on these lacy shawls!
Another client is working on this bathing suit coverup tunic.
one of our clients has crocheted a spider web pattern!

Our outpatient client/residential graduate/volunteer made this bag. Notice how she designed the straps.
A scarf with "embellishments"!!!!
This client is so proud of her newfound ability to knit. She is now onto a fun fur project!
A black and white afghan that is being crocheted.

Anne and Leslie finished up their community service internship. This was their last week. We will miss you both and wish you all the best. Thanks for coming every week!

Leslie felted a handbag from a scarf that was discarded.

Lucia is working on a vest.
This shawl is even more beautiful than the photo shows. The client who made it has not even been here a month and is a new knitter!
Two scarves in bamboo yarn.

The words for today: Persistence, Perseverence, Practice AND Progress not Perfection

These words were chosen by our outpatient client volunteer who showed the group her first washcloth and then her beautiful bag shown in the photo above. She wanted to let the new knitters know that it takes practice and a little time to "get it". The nice part about learning to knit in a community setting is that you have lots of buddies around to help you.

The projects continue to be beautiful. Thanks to all who have sent yarn and needles.

The words for the day: Reuse and Recycle

Earth Day is April 22!

Lots of good ideas for pieces of yarn. The not yet felted handbag is tapestry yarn--small pieces woven together. The afghans are made from yarn donated from projects far and wide. Leslie showed us her knitted blanket made from squares of yarn sewn together. Thanks to Abby and her friends for the supply of needles andcirculars that arrivd today - special delivery from Abby herself! We have been having such fun with the projects that are being sent. Thanks to Melissa and her friends! We look forward to dying yarn with koolaid. And we received instructions for a vertical scarf! Thanks to all of you! And to our volunteers today, Leslie, Zelphia, and Kathleen.

The words for the day: Charity, Pay it Forward, and Pass It On

Leslie our volunteer told our clients about a project where warm clothing is needed for children in Mongolia (Dulaan Project). We decided we would take this project on and the clients are going to knit scarves and we will send it off in the mail by July 1. We are trying to pass on the kindnesses that have been shown to us with many of the yarn donations from all over the country. I am hoping that many of our friends who have donated yarn to us see it being used in some of the photos I capture.

The word for the day: Spring Fever

It is difficult to be in treatment during this beautiful Spring weather here in Philadelphia. Knitting spring things helps and knitting can definitely help keep your mind focused.

I have photos of Zelphia (one of our wonderful volunteers) modelling a shawl she made. One of our clients came up with a very versatile scarf that can be fastened both in the front and back with a button. I also wanted to show a beautiful yarn called Bamboo from SouthWest Trading Company. Four knitters are using the exact same yarn and are coming up with totally different creations.

We have a rolling admission here so people are always being admitted and discharged as they complete their six months. We have lots of new knitters who are learning very quickly. There are lots of shawls being worked on right now. Stay tuned for more photos!!!!!!
