December 12, 19, 26 -2008

Happy Holidays!!! During these three weeks in December we have had a lot going on. We had a holiday party as part of our knitting group and caroling. We all also had the opportunity to express our gratitude and appreciation for the connections we have made through knitting. We talked about how knitting helps during stressful times and is also a great hobby. The clients made many gifts for family members and talked about how people just start conversations while watching them knit while out and about. Our clients are also teaching their children and family members how to knit! There are a lot of new knitters in Philadelphia!

Keyah who works here has a new hobby. She is knitting. Below: a client is modelling a scarf with the colors of the flag of Ireland. What a neat idea to knit it this way on circulars.

Above a scarf by a new knitter.

Below: a beautiful scarf by a knitter who has finally gotten it. It took her a lot of dropped stitches, unwanted yarn overs, and crooked edges but not anymore. She has moved on to handbags!

Above: this will be a rainbow blanket when the squares are joined.
Below: our triangle blanket gallery. Many knitters are enjoying using this pattern for a quick and easy baby blanket.

Here is our our felted handbag gallery.

This lady is pretty busy with all of her projects.

Our sock lady made this shawl out of sock yarn of course. It is being modeled by our social work intern, Heather.

Above: Lucia modeling her fingerless gloves that everyone now wants to learn how to make. In preparation, many of the ladies are learning how to purl.

Here is Linda, our volunteer, above. Thanks for your help with the party!

Here are a couple photos of our caroling while knitting party! Here is Leslie and Lucia, our volunteers, joining in the singing.

Above Jean, always teaching the newest knitters. Below, our guests leading us during our caroling event. Thanks for coming!
