July 6, 2007 WOW! - Our map is amazing!

This will be a blanket of many patterns knitted together (above).

Every new knitter starts with a washcloth. Above is someone's first project. And below is Toby who sleeps on every project I am working on.

Above: the first few stitches on a washcloth. You should see how proud she is. Below is a first scarf project. She already completed her washcloth and she is moving on!

This client wants to learn new things (above) and is working on washcloths, learning new stitches and patterns. She has been here about three months. Look at her go!
Above: this woman has been here about two weeks. She got it!

Above: many shades of orange and the same client is working on a wool handbag to felt.

We are very excited about our new map on the blog. It is a great way to see the world and how connected we are through our knitting! We are learning about how knitting has helped others through different letters we receive and as an added bonus we can use the map as a geography lesson! I have had several requests from people asking about donations of yarn. I am thinking that I might make a separate section with that information which might be helpful. I have been responding individually to each person who asks about donating through the blog comments but I can only do that if an email address is included.

Blankets are still the most "in" project right now. It is a great way to use all of the part skeins that we receive and what a great way to combine colors and textures, be creative, learn how to knit really well because it is endless knitting, dropped stitches can be easily hidden, and you don't have to worry about gauge! You can see many of them this week: (150 stitches on size 11 circulars and you knit for 40 inches). The clients are naming them and picking out the yarns to create a theme.
